Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I select Bellingham Beauty School for my Cosmetology, or Manicuring training?

Bellingham Beauty School’s mission is to prepare their graduates to pass the state board exams and to prepare them for success in the workplace.  Passing the state exams is a must. Success in the workplace looks different to each person. In the learning environment it is imperative that a student feel safe and yet challenged.
Bellingham Beauty School staff is very mindful of the student’s individual needs and goals, thus providing a safe and challenging learning environment.

Does Bellingham Beauty School have a dress code?

Yes, when one enters Cosmetology School they are entering the appearance business. While individual style is encouraged, it is necessary to identify who is a student, who is staff and faculty for the benefit of clients or guests.
The dress code is black and/or white, on the clinic floor, a name tag and a black salon vest is required.  Name tags are provided by the school; the black vest must be approved by the school and purchased by the student.

What kind of qualifications do I need to start Cosmetology School?

Bellingham Beauty School requires a GED or High School diploma and two letters of recommendation from people who believe the student will be successful in school and in the industry.  Beyond the basics for proper paper work the other qualities that make a student successful are commitment, enjoying working with people, and wiliness to practice to perfect one’s skills.

What is the earning potential in the Cosmetology/Barbering/Manicuring field?

An individual’s initiative and ability to attract and hold regular clients are key factors in determining earnings.  With the growth of the image industry, the demand for professionals has never been better.  (Occupational Outlook Handbook).

How long will it take me to complete training?

Students are required to attend at least 100 hours a month, so a student enrolled in the 1800 hour Cosmetology Program is contracted for 18 months, a student in the 650 hour Manicuring Program is contracted for 6 and ½ months.  It is possible to fast track allowing students to complete sooner but it has an affect on the amount of financial aid available.  The good news is testing can be completed within hours, so, as soon as hours are completed the state can issue a license.
